Violet Mae Costlow

COSTLOW – Violet Mae, 97, Adams Township, went to be the Lord June 26, 2025. Born May 1, 1928, Conemaugh Township; daughter of Paul G. and Violet F. (Huffman) Costlow. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Ethelene Deffenbaugh and Evelyn Buriak; brother, Lawrence; and nephew, Dean Costlow.

Survived by brother, Donald Costlow; sister-in-law, Veda (Eppley) Costlow; nieces and nephews, Bradley Costlow (Anne), Sylvia Boone (Thomas), Arlene Frostbutter (Dave), Mark Deffenbaugh (Tina), and Karen Lauffer (widow of Paul); their families; and aunts, Dollie Kelly and Charlotte Buchovecky.

Mae was a member of Locust Grove Church of Brethren. She was a graduate of Adams Township High School, class of 1948 and graduated from Cambria Rowe Business College in 1953. She worked for the better part of her life, continuing to do so well into her 90’s. You may remember her from behind the counter at the bakery department in Giant Eagle. Even in her later years, Mae’s love for music was one of her greatest joys! She had a gift for the guitar, strumming and singing gospel classics and country and western songs with a heart full of passion. She could also play the accordion—a rare and wonderful gift that brought a unique charm to every gathering. Mae’s love for family truly defined her. She embraced the role of family matriarch with grace and devotion. Her famous homemade fudge, apple butter, and root beer  live on in the hearts of those lucky enough to have tasted them. Mae lived in service to others and had a quiet strength that came from trusting the Lord. Her life was a life well-lived—full of faith, music, and above all, love.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork; Pastor Michael Christine Presiding. Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery.
