EVACKO – Robert Evan, 88, Sidman, passed away October 26, 2025. Born October 27, 1936, in St. Michael, son of Evan and Caroline E. (Ivock) Evacko. Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife, Jean Marie (Bestelak) Evacko, who died October 23, 2022; and sister, Kay (Peter) Bertolino.
Survived by daughter, Patricia (Scott) Franey; and sisters, Margaret Evacko; and Dorothy (John) Dzmura.
Bob was a 1954 graduate of Adams–Summerhill High School. Not long after, he answered the call of duty and served his country as a member of the “Big Red One,” the US Army’s 1st Infantry Division and the oldest continuously serving combat unit in the Army. He worked for Bethlehem Steel and retired from Johnstown America after 42 years in the industry. A devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he enjoyed fellowship with friends in the Holy Name Society. One of his favorite pastimes was calling bingo for both the church and the St. Michael Fire Company. Bob also enjoyed traveling and making the occasional trip to the casino. Though we will miss him deeply, his example of kindness, faith, and service will live on in all of us.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Father Jerzy Auguscik, OFM Conv., celebrant.
