WESS - Richard T. “Dick,” 92, New Germany, died September 29, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born August 21, 1933, in Summerhill, the last surviving child of Adolph J. “Shorty” and Coletta (Betz) Wess. Preceded in death by parents; grandson, Lee Wess; daughter-in-law, Twila (Williams) Wess; sister, Helen Miller; and brothers, David, George Wm. “Bill,” and Daniel Wess.
Survived by loving wife of 68 years, Frances (Wirfel) Wess, whom he married November 24, 1956; children, Jess, married to Jeanne (Robinson); Dale, married to Patricia (Hopfer); Thomas, married to MaryAnn (Kott); Julia, wife of Gary Borlie; Jane, wife of Nick Chabon; Theodore, married to Sarah (Wolf); Susan Wess; and Sandra Wess; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Agypt) Wess.
In 1953, Dick answered the call to serve, enlisting in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel, Car Dept. He was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Germany. He also belonged to the Laurel Run Rod & Gun Club, the St. Michael American Legion Post 551, and the NRA. He had a deep sense of duty, a strong moral compass, and a quiet strength that inspired those around him. We are truly blessed with his legacy of service, faith, loyalty, and love.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday October 1, 2025; at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday October 2, 2025; at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Father Joseph C. Nale, celebrant.
