Mark W. Lawery

October 14, 1957 — May 18, 2020

LAWERY – Mark W. “Socks,” 62, Salix, died from pulmonary fibrosis, May 18, 2020, at UPMC Presbyterian.

Born October 14, 1957, in Johnstown, son of Ruby (Dunmire) and her husband, the late Byron Lawery.

Survived by mother, Ruby Lawery, St. Michael; loving wife of 41 years, Kathy (Kostick) Lawery, whom he married December 2, 1978; son, Mark (Christina) Lawery, Irwin; daughter, Kristy (Justin) McKnight, Windber; grandchildren, Allison, Chase, Connor, Lakin, Jack, and Ben; sisters, Yolanda (Frank) Kocsis, Maryland; and Glenda Conroy, Maryland; and brother, Barry Lawery, Nanty Glo.

Mark will be remembered as a hard-working man who always found an opportunity to help others. He became a coal truck driver at 17, which led to a career as a freight driver at McQuaides. He then worked as the plant operator at Lockpaver. For the last 20 years, Mark owned and operated a construction and excavation company. It was difficult to find something he could not do. He valued family above everything, especially spending time with his beloved grandchildren and dogs, Buster and Mazey.

Due to public health concerns visitation will be private.

Private funeral service at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, the Reverend Don Poole presiding.

Interment, Dunmyer Cemetery.
