John A. Sacerino

SACERINO – John A., 85, Sidman, went to be with the Lord August 4, 2026. Ever the optimist, John lived with multiple myeloma for 12 years, facing each challenge with resilience.

Born January 18, 1941, in Johnstown. Preceded in death by parents, Dominick S. and Virginia E. (Fronzoli) Sacerino.

Survived by loving wife of 54 years, Barbara (Simmons) Sacerino, whom he married June 3, 1972; sister, Virginia Caputo; brother, Dominick J., married to Leslie (Wissinger); niece, Tina (Caputo) McBreen and her children, Mason and Kagan; nephew, Anthony Sacerino and his children, Logan and Lucas; nephew, Steven Sacerino; sister-in-law, Georgetta, wife of Ronald Puhl; and their son, Kerry.

John was a graduate of Johnstown Catholic High school. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and master’s equivalency at Penn State. He also pursued Arts in Education coursework at Shippensburg, Indiana, Penn State and Bucknell. John devoted 33 years to the Richland School District as a music teacher, inspiring generations of students through his love of music. For 25 years, he served as Chairman of the Fine Arts Department, where he helped establish programs that continue to enrich both the school and community. John began playing the accordion at 10. Through the years, he performed with several bands, including as a founding member of the J.C. Four, which entertained audiences at the Holiday Inn for more than a decade. A talented carpenter and craftsman, he built three homes and went on to become a certified home inspector in 1989. He belonged to several automotive clubs; enjoyed a Sunday drive in his 1962 convertible Chevrolet Impala, and took great pride in restoring and maintaining classic cars.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, St. Michael, celebrant Rev. Fr. Jerzy Auguscik, OFM CONV. Committal, St. Anthony Cemetery, Geistown.
