PAULEY – John D. Sr., 79, Summerhill, died March 4, 2026. Born March 30, 1946, in Johnstown. Preceded in death by parents, John C. and Harriet L. (Klock) Pauley; and brothers, Greg and Dan Pauley.
Survived by loving wife of 55 years, Barbara J. (Motchenbaugh) Pauley, whom he married April 30, 1970; sons, John Jr. (Marianne); Michael (Tammy); Ryan; and Matthew (Lori); grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Aiden, and Adam; brother, Glenn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for Bethlehem Mine 33 for 24 years and retired from the Physical Plant Department at St. Francis University. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Portage; the United Mine Workers of America, and the St. Michael American Legion. He was an avid reader. In his garage he tinkered, fixed, built, and figured things out with patience. If something didn’t quite work, he’d stay with it until it did. In many ways, that’s how he lived his life too.
Friends will be received from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. Military rites by St. Michael American Legion Post 551. Private Interment.
The family is especially grateful to Abby and Heather, and all the staff of Windber Hospice for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donation to the Organization for Autism Research. Online at https://researchautism.org
