John W. Patterson

PATTERSON – John W., 92, formerly of Salix, went to be with the Lord September 13, 2026, at The Villa Crest personal care home. Born February 8, 1934, in St. Michael. Preceded in death by parents, William and Callie (McIntyre) Patterson; sisters, Ruth and husband, Nick Kolar; Grace and husband, Ed Reiter; Lois and husband, Robert Jacobs; and Twila and Esther Patterson; brothers, Robert and William Patterson; and nephew, William G. Kolar and wife, Judith (Hendrickson). Survived by nieces, Joanne (Kolar), widow of A. Raymond Hufford; and Patricia (Kolar) and husband, Donald Schmidt; nephew, Nicholas C. “Hop” Kolar and wife, Sally (Rhoads); three generations of beloved nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

A graduate of Adams Township High School, Class of 1952, John went on to work as a shipping clerk for Berwind White Coal Mining Co. in St. Michael until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served two years of active duty, ending in 1958, followed by two years in the active reserves as company clerk for the 424th Transportation Co., ending in 1960, and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was employed for over 33 years at the Pennsylvania State Employment Service in Johnstown, retiring in 1991. A faithful member of St. Michael Methodist Church, where he served as head usher and financial recording secretary. John also had a special gift for music and taught himself to play the button box by ear.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.

Visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Methodist Church, St. Michael; the Reverend Dawn Davis, presiding.

Interment, South Fork Cemetery. Military rites by St. Michael American Legion, Post 551.
