Jean Marie Evacko

EVACKO – Jean Marie, 81, died October 23, 2022. Born November 1, 1940, in Johnstown, daughter of Andrew and Nellie (Brunett) Bestelak.
Survived by husband of 55 years, Robert E. Evacko, who she married August 12, 1967; and daughter, Patricia, wife of Scott Franey, Golden, Colorado.
Graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, class of 1958. In the Summer of 1958, Jean moved to Washington, DC and worked as a secretary for the Federal Aviation Administration. She met Robert on a weekend trip home and moved back to Sidman when they married. In her younger years, Jean volunteered many hours with St Michael Volunteer Fire Company, Ladies Auxiliary, and the Cambria County Humane Society. She loved to make crafts and crochet and donated much of it to various fundraisers over her life. Even while being treated for cancer, Jean crocheted winter hats and donated them to the cancer center for patients. Later in life, Jean loved meeting with her high school classmates once a month for their “reunion” luncheons. Her and Robert enjoyed spending winters in Zephyr Hills, Florida and did so for 18 years.
