CELMER - Jean M. (Peron) age 90 of Salix, died Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Born May 8, 1931, in Beaverdale, daughter of Peter L. and Anna C. (Yope) Peron. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Walter L. to whom she was married for 38 years; sister, Patricia “Patsy” Afton; brothers-in-law, Alex Afton and Albert “Butch” Puto; and niece; Teresa “Terri” Afton Costanzo.

Beloved mother of, Beverly and husband Mark Hull, Mt. Hope; Pamela, and husband Matthew Thomas, Mt. Airy, Maryland; Lawrence “Larry,” Salix; and Nancy and husband Michael Selepak, Germantown, Maryland. Also survived by her granddaughter, Paula and her husband Andrew Halbach and her two great grandsons, Nathan and Owen Halbach, Clarksburg, Maryland; sisters, Doris Lee Stupi and husband George, Mechanicsburg; and Joanne Puto, Darlington; and seven nieces and one nephew.

Jean was a 1949 graduate of Beaverdale High School and a 1953 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College now Indiana University of Pennsylvania (I.U.P.). Her early teaching years were spent in the Beaverdale and Wilmore elementary schools. She retired in 1996 from Forest Hills School District. Her 37-year career in education ended with a tremendous feeling of pride and satisfaction and with many fond memories of her students and fellow educators. She was a life member of the local, county and state chapters of the P.A.S.R. In 2003 she received the honor of becoming a Pioneer of I.U.P. when she returned to the campus for the 50th reunion of her class. She also returned again in 2013 for the 60th class reunion. Jean was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Beaverdale for 63 years and later was a member of Holy Spirit Parish for 14 years. She was a member of the Church council for 6 years and served as president of the Altar Rosary society for 11 years. For the last 14 years, she has a been a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in South Fork.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022, at Charles Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Father Joseph C. Nale, Celebrant. Committal, St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Beaverdale.

The family respectfully requests masks be worn at the funeral home and at the Funeral Mass.

Jean’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of McCullough Place. Our mother was provided excellent nursing care and genuine love by the staff. All residents are cared for with respect, concern, and dignity. The staff’s vigilance and expertise of dementia residents is outstanding. The McCullough Place staff healed our family with much concern and support for us and our Mom. May God Bless All. The family also extends a sincere thank you to all staff of 365 Hospice for their loving and professional care of Mom and their caring support to us. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beaverdale Public Library, McCullough Place Resident Fund, and the Mary and Joseph Society of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
