TEMPLETON – Harry D., 85, New Germany, died May 7, 2025. Born December 3, 1939, in Cresson, son of Harry and Florence (Stombaugh) Templeton. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Violet B. (Werfel) Templeton, who died September 1, 1988; and sisters, Doris V. Hampton – Klett and Nettie Mae Edwards.
Survived by children, David, married to Jodi (Strong); Dale, married to Tracy (Vanscoyoc); Diane, wife of Derek McCall; Daniel, married to Carla (Kruper); Douglas; Denise, wife of George Aubert; and Darren, married to Courtney (Wirfel); nineteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and sisters, Fay Odenthal; Sandy, wife of Chet Long; and Linda Hazlett.
Harry was a member of Bethany UMC. He graduated from Beaverdale – Wilmore High School, class of 1958 and not long after, answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Longtime coalminer, he retired as foreman from BethEnergy Mine 33. He found peace in God’s creation, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Wilmore Sportsmen’s Club. He was an avid Steelers fan, and always held out hope the Pirates would have a winning season next year! He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, reunions, holiday celebrations, and simple gatherings with family and friends. He taught us the importance of togetherness and being there for one another. His charisma was undeniable; and his sense of humor had a way of making life seem a little lighter, a little brighter, and a lot more fun. He was not just our father; he was the “Best dad in the World.” And one of the strongest people anyone had ever met.
