Frederick C. Smith

April 5, 1957 — April 30, 2025

SMITH – It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Frederick Charles, “Fred”, 68, a devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather, and loyal friend. Fred passed away at his home in New Germany on April 30, 2025. Born April 5, 1957, in Johnstown, son of Benno and Clara C. (Frank) Smith, Fred was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Theodore; sisters, Irene Becker and Marie Woomer; and brother, William.

Survived by high school sweetheart and loving wife, Bonnie Lynn (Seese); children, Ashley and Justin Young, College Station, Texas; Nolan and Racheal (Hostetter), Abell, Maryland; Kevin and Allie, Newburg, Pennsylvania; Tyler and Brittany (Tolman), Holly Springs, North Carolina; and Jacqueline Smith; grandchildren, Emma, Austin, Ethan, Elliot, Georgiana, Henry, Dally-Rae, Evie, Claire, and Winry; and siblings Camilla (William) Miller; Naomi (John) Stohon; David (Cindy Long); Kate Schmidt; Ronald (Bonnie Mundwiler); and Patti (Jim) Feather.

Fred graduated from Forest Hills High School, class of 1975. After school, he put his hands to work in construction, carpentry, and cabinet making with the Long Barn. He had tremendous gifts in craftsmanship and enjoyed tinkering in his garage, and his children knew him as a quiet, steadfast, and selfless dad who could fix anything. Fred was a man whose greatest joys in life were quality time at home and life’s simple pleasures, whether he was throwing darts at Vince’s, sitting around a table playing cards with his family and friends, or riding his motorcycle. His hands built many beautiful things, but it was his heart that built the love, legacy, and memories we will carry with us forever.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Charles O. Diamond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.

A private funeral service will be held the following morning.

Interment at Dunmyer Cemetery, Salix.
