In the early morning of October 10, 2023 heaven welcomed another angel. Evelyn Louise Wilson who lived in Ebensburg, PA was blessed with a long life of 98 years. She was born Evelyn Fisher on June 6, 1925 in Fifficktown, PA and lived many years in Ehrenfeld. Her parents, the late Joseph (Rybicky) Fisher and Eva (Legal) Fisher emigrated from Poland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph Francis Wilson who died in December of 1968 and his parents David and Mary Wilson of Ehrenfeld. Also, brothers Stanley (wife Lucy), Joseph (wife Julia), Walter (wife Janet) Fisher and sisters Josephine Sczepanski (husband Mike), Helen Gurchik (husband Paul), Eleanor Rusnak (husband Charles), Jean Waskowsky (husband George) and Shirley Slobinsky (husband Louis).
Evelyn is survived by her 5 children, John Wilson (wife Margaret) and Diane Bodenschatz (husband Ken) of New Germany, Carol Bingaman (husband Larry) of Waynesboro, VA, Linda O’Connor (husband Roderic Sr.) of Harrisburg, PA and Brian Wilson of Elkridge, MD. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was blessed with 17 grandchildren: Joseph Bodenschatz, Maria Ellenberger (husband Tyson), David Bodenschatz (wife Lindsay), Timothy Bodenschatz, Thomas Bodenschatz (wife Michelle), Michael Bodenschatz, Emily Bodenschatz, Geri Wilson, Elise Long (husband Jared), Aron Wilson, Roderic O’Connor Jr. (wife Michelle), Katie Herman (husband Robert), Colin O’Connor, Allison O’Connor, Benjamin Wilson, Adam Wilson and Anna Wilson. She was also the proud great grandmother of Kyler, Audrey, Penny, William, Alexander, Savannah, Sawyer, Everett, Avery, and Bodeen.
Evelyn retired from Ebensburg Center (formerly Ebensburg State School and Hospital), a job that she found very rewarding. She lived a good life as a devout Catholic who was known for her generosity, always looking to help those in need and for her kind and gentle spirit. She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren who will honor her by following her example of family first, being kind, and using the lessons she taught them to make a difference in the world. As she was fond of saying to her grandchildren, “Always remember, help is just a prayer away.”
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2023 at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Germany; Father Joseph C. Nale, Celebrant.
Committal, St. Marys Cemetery.
