MACKEL – Edward Pope, 97, South Fork, died July 19, 2022, at Westmont Woods. Born July 10, 1925, in Johnstown, son of Byrl and Annetta (Thomas) Mackel. Preceded in death by parents; wife Eleanor J. (Navatsyk), who died February 12, 2009; daughter, Martina Sanderson; sister, Verdene Hancock; and brothers, Devon, Howard, and Arthur.
Survived by children, JoAnn Mackel, Flinton; MaDonna, wife of Tom Cruse, South Fork; Edward, married to Michelle (Primel), South Fork; William, married to Carol (Smiach), New Germany; and Renee, wife of John Filla, Chardon, Ohio; sisters, Lorene Gillespie and Shelby Manges, both of South Fork; twelve beloved grandchildren; and fourteen cherished great grandchildren.
Pope was a graduate of Adams Township High School, class of 1944. He attended services at the Parkview Alliance Church for many years. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the South Fork Pistol Club. Though he fell asleep in this world, we find comfort knowing he has awakened in Heaven and has rejoined those loved ones whom he has longed to see again.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, the Reverend Patrick Walsh presiding.
Interment, St. James Cemetery.
