Dorothy L. Bowen

BOWEN – Dorothy L., 85, South Fork, went to be with the Lord, May 15, 2025. Born October 11, 1939, in Johnstown; daughter of Edward D. and Geraldine P. (Fleck) Ellenberger. Preceded in death by parents; beloved husband, Dennis B. Bowen, who died January 9, 2024; sisters, Mary Jane and Carol Jean “Jeanne” Ellenberger; brother, James Ellenberger; great granddaughter, Odella Joy Gerney; and nephew, Matthew Ellenberger.

Survived by son, David (Misti Parkin); daughters, Debbie (Mark Wadsworth); and Dawna (Scott Gerney); grandchildren, Jarrett Bowen, Jensen Bowen, Nathan Gerney (Michaela Hanlon), Kayla Gerney (Richie Marson), and Matthew Wadsworth; great granddaughter, Sylvia Brae Gerney; sisters, Nancy (John Nicely); sister-in-law, Peggy (Hawthorne) Ellenberger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, Class of 1957, and earned an associate’s degree from Cambria Rowe Business College. She was a devoted member of South Fork First Evangelical Church, where she served as organist for over 30 years. She also played the organ for the Dimond Funeral Home, offering countless family’s comfort in times of sorrow. Her life was a testament to the quiet power of service—service to God, to family, to her community. She gave generously, faithfully, and with a joyful heart.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. 

Visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at South Fork First Evangelical Church, the Reverend Randy Landman, presiding.
