CRUTE – David Clyde, 100, South Fork, went to be with the Lord February 7, 2026, at home. Born May 31, 1925, in South Fork, son of Roy and Blanche (Custer) Crute. Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife of 73 years, Irene “Jo” (Stafford) Crute, who died February 16, 2023; son-in-law, Michael Cornell; brothers, Joseph and Edward; and sisters, Virginia Buzzard, and Lyla and Mary Crute.
Survived by daughters, Pamela Cornell; and Peggy Glacken (Paul); grandchildren, Shawn Cornell (Amy), Samantha Cornell, Joshua Glacken (Elizabeth), Dr. Jared Glacken, and Jason Glacken; great grandchildren, Devon and Donovan Cornell, and Cora and Luke Glacken; and in-laws, Sandy and Terry Reighard.
As a young man, Dave served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. For nearly 70 years, he stood behind the chair, beginning his career at Bloom’s and later opening Crute’s Barber Shop in South Fork, where generations of families came to know him as a friend who listened, remembered, and cared. Outside of the shop, he took great pride in keeping his yard neat and well cared for. Dave’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a longtime member of South Fork First Church, where he faithfully attended the Men’s Bible Class and sang in the Men’s Choir. He was also affiliated with the Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship. He loved God deeply and thanked Jesus for everything, trusting the Lord in both joyful moments and difficult trials, never wavering in faith or gratitude. His life was one of loving service; to his country, his community, his church, his family, and his Lord.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, Pastor Gary Tustin presiding. Interment, South Fork Cemetery. Military rites by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
Special thanks to Pastor Gary Tustin, loving caregiver Brenda Webb, and helper Suzie Miller, as well as the wonderful angels from Windber Hospice.
