GRATTAN – Bernard E. “Eddie,” 96, Sidman, died October 11, 2023. Born May 10, 1927, in Dunlo, son of Lawrence E. and Frances R. (Jerneycic) Grattan.
Preceded in death by parents; wife, Twila Grace (Hildebrand) Grattan, who died November 20, 2007; brothers, Patrick (Joan) and Dennis Grattan; sisters, Alda (Peter) Kovalsky, Caroline (Pete) Rachael, Dorothy (James) Mihalick and Mary Jane Dennis; and sister-in-law, Glory Grattan.
Survived by son, Robert L., married to Ellen (Hautz) Grattan; granddaughters, Wendy Lieb, Hollidaysburg; and Jan, wife of Alan Miller Jr., Harrisburg; great grandchildren, Caitlyn Nicole and Alexander Joseph Lieb and Alan Gary III and Colton Robert Miller; brother, Francis Grattan; and sister-in-law, Judy Grattan.
Member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael; and St. Michael American Legion, Post 551. US Navy veteran of WWII having served in the South Pacific with the Seabees in Okinawa and Guam. He was a skilled carpenter and craftsman and retired Maintenance Superintendent from Good Samaritan and the former Mercy Hospital after 41 years of service. Eddie inherited the long and rich tradition of Irish storytelling, wee bit of blarney included. He had a generous and giving spirit and lived a life of service to his fellow man. His hope, courage, and optimism were an inspiration to all. Though he fell asleep in this world, he has awakened in Heaven. Not only does he live in the presence of God now, but he has rejoined his beloved grade school sweetheart, best friend, and wife, with whom he shared a true storybook tale of love.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Father Jerzy Auguscik, OFM CONV and Father Clement Gardner concelebrants.
