SLANOC – Andrew, 79, of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2025. Loving husband of Laura (née Szymanski) for 53 years; Proud father of Cindy and Matthew (Rachael Compton); dear brother of Charles, Martin (Lynn), and the late Margaret Garanich (Art), Steve (Geraldine; surviving), Barbara Graves (Bill), Robert (Karen), Dianne Summers (Wayne; surviving), and Nancy Sorrell (Shawn); son of the late Martin and Anna (nee Peretin); uncle to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Friend of too many people to count.
Andy was born in 1945, and grew up in St. Michael, Pennsylvania, a place that he always called home. He loved spending time with his family and his home was always open to visits from family and friends. Andy was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He worked as a Steelworker at Republic/LTV Steel in Cleveland for 38 years, rarely missing a day. He was a longtime member of the Hunter Station Sportsmen Club. He loved trap shooting, fishing and golfing, playing golf with the same group on Mondays for over 40 years. A loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he spent many football Sundays hollering at the TV and coaching from his recliner. At home, he took pride in his meticulously manicured lawn and was famous for his homemade pickles which he made and delivered every summer. He never turned down a Reese’s peanut butter cup. He was very funny, unfailingly kind, and always showed up with a joke, offering a handshake, and a smile. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all those who knew him.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Northfield, Ohio; on June 14, 2025. Private Inurnment at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, St. Michael, Pennsylvania. Military graveside service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
