HOLDSWORTH - Marlena Ann “Lanie,” 42, Bowie, Maryland; died May 12, 2020 with her mother at her side. She had been battling cancer for three and a half years and died from complications from Covid-19 at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.
Survived by loving mother, Catherine (Myers) Holdsworth, Summerhill; sister, Erica Holdsworth, Meadville; four nephews, Lawrence, Nathaniel, Isaiah, and Markeise; niece, Jasmine; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Marlena was preceded in death by her beloved Grandma and Pap, Anna (Salargo) and William “Budd” Myers, and many other dear relatives.
Born March 20, 1978, in Johnstown she lived her early life in Dunlo before moving to Maryland with her mother and sister. Marlena attended Parkdale High School in Lanham, Maryland. While there, she participated in Special Olympics and was a member of the Girl Scouts of America for many years, achieving quite a few medals and badges. In following years, Marlena attended a day program at Melwood Vocational Supported Employment in Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and volunteered at Doctor’s Hospital in Lanham. She was an enthusiastic participant at the MNCPPC social activities, as she was a big fan of music and dancing. Marlena loved socializing, talking, and laughing with anybody she sat beside. She was always up for good times with her large extended family; visiting their homes to celebrate births, birthdays, graduations, and weddings, as well as the annual Myers Family Reunions and Christmas parties – she especially loved all the special dishes and goodies at these events. She enjoyed watching her favorite family videos and playing Uno. Marlena was a fighter to the end, having overcome so much physical adversity throughout her life. She liked to say, “My mom said my job is to get better and her job is to worry about everything else.” Lanie is loved and sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, services will be private.
Funeral service will be celebrated by Reverend Monsignor David A. Lockard.
Committal, St. Michael Cemetery.
