MADISON – Marian Theresa (Shrift), 89, Summerhill, died January 24, 2020, at Conemaugh Hospital. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt who loved spending time with her family and beloved dog of 17 years, Mimi. Born June 10, 1930, in New Germany, daughter of Peter and Stella (McCormick) Shrift.

Preceded in death by parents; loving husband of 50 years, Francis “Franny”; infant son, Joseph Anthony; brothers, Regis, James, and Herbert; and sisters, Laura, Leona “Pee Wee,” Genevieve, and Rita.

Survived by children, Ronald, married to Melodi (Giles); Theresa, wife of Michael Kirchner; Mary Ann Adams, all of New Germany; Thomas, married to Deborah (Seese), Summerhill; Gary, married to Tina (Coudriet), Pittsburgh; Jeffrey, married to Cathy (Bertolino), Harrisburg; Brian “Rocky,” married to Christine (Blaisdell), Summerhill; and Gregory, married to Laurie (Wess), New Germany. Marian adored her 17 grandchildren: Sean Kirchner, Jason (Elyse) Kirchner, Kelly Madison, Carisa (Mike) Lepley, Matt (Kelly) Adams, Jared (Louisa) Adams, Joshua (Ashlee) Madison, Jacob (Nikole) Madison, Nicole (Joshua) Shope, Craig (Lindsey) Madison, Bethany Madison, Jonathan and Erin Madison, Nathan and Alyssa Madison, Maggie (Trenton) Layo, and Logan (Kayla) Madison. She cherished her 13 great-grandchildren with another arriving in April: Kaelin and Brennen Kirchner, Lennon Kirchner, Emma and Wyatt Lepley, Troy and Christian Adams, Ty and Quinn Madison, Ellie Madison, Brodie, and Cole and Carter Shope. Also survived by brother, Ray Shrift; sister, Eleanor Singer; and sister-in-law, Irene Shrift.

Marian was a graduate of South Fork High School, class of 1948. She worked as a secretary at Geis’s Store, wrote “Summerhill Notes” for The Portage Dispatch, and “District Notes” for The Reporter - GBU Financial Life. She was a GBU 291 District Representative selling life insurance and annuities for the past 18 years. A member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Rosary Society, Summerhill. Marian was loved and cherished by everyone she met and blessed with many lifelong friends who she stayed close with throughout the years. Her picture letters were one of a kind. She loved dressing up for Halloween, Christmases with gifts filling the room, photos with Mr. & Mrs. Santa, Valentine’s Day parties for her grandchildren and celebrations at the Summerhill Social Club. If you knew her, you’d know her favorite accessory was her camera, which she loved to layer with her camcorder. She entered and won numerous photo contests. She loved her home which was open to all and enjoyed summers at her pool with family and friends. She was the best baker of pies, sponge cake, and a grandchild favorite – pancakes.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 26; and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 27; at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Monday followed by vigil for the deceased.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28; at St. John’s Catholic Church, Summerhill; Celebrant, Father Leon Hont, OSB.

Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Germany.
