Grace T. Penatzer

December 22, 1930 - January 23, 2022

Grace T. Penatzer left this world as she wished while sleeping peacefully. At the age of 91, she was the matriarch of our family. She will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her. Grace was born in Ebensburg on December 22, 1930, to Garbett and Grace Shertzer. Preceded in death by parents; infant sister, Annette; sisters, Betty M. Penatzer and Rose Bimle; brothers, Reed and Wess Shertzer; former husband, Charles L. Penatzer; son-in-law, Joseph McKendree; and brother-in-law, John Progar, Survived by children, Mary McKendree, Chuck and Pam Penatzer, Sue and Barry McCullough, and Philip and Andrea Penatzer; grandchildren, Jimmy Blough, Amanda McKendree (Daniel Casciato), Josh (Ellie) Penatzer, Cayla Penatzer, Barry McCullough Jr. (Ruthie), Jake (Lindsay) Penatzer, and Jill Penatzer (mother Linda); great grandchildren, Alexandria (Danny Obernauer), Chloe Blough (Evan), Giavanna Grace Casciato, Riley Penatzer, Lainey Penatzer, and Aiden Penatzer, another great grandson expected in August; and a first great great grandchild is also expected in August; sisters, Nancy Werfel and Beverly Progar; and in-laws, Dennis and Patricia Penatzer; and many loving nieces and nephews. Grace was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown. For 35 years, she was employed at the former Jolly Roger Restaurant. After its closing, she retired from Giant Eagle. She was a beloved mother, grandma, great grandma, and sister. She had a special relationship with each and everyone. Family meant the world to her, and she cherished the moments they stopped in for cookies and a nice "ham sammy." Sleepovers at Grandma's included pizza, lincoln logs, storytelling, chippers and dip, and competitive UNO. Sunny days made her smile. An affectionate smile that warmed the hearts of those near her. Christmas and Hallmark movies were her favorite. Working a puzzle brought her joy, especially when someone would stop in to add just one more piece. And she always looked forward to bingo and casino trips with her daughters and her sister/best friend, Bev. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown; Father David Peles, Celebrant. Committal, St. Marys Cemetery, New Germany. Tribute Video: https://www.tributeslides.com/tributes/show/GQ3Q4ZKRX58R5DGQ
