Doris K. Previte

November 20, 1918 — June 12, 2016

PREVITE - Doris Katherine, 97, of Summerhill, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 12, 2016 at the Forest Hills Personal Care Home in Sidman where she resided. Doris was born on November 20, 1918 and was the daughter of Jacob F. and Amelia (Long) Hoover.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Carlyle “Red” Gillin, who passed in 1963; second husband, Dominic James “Hookie” Previte, who passed in 1985; son, Joel Stephen Gillin, who passed in 2013; sisters, Josepha Gallardy, Blanche Wilburn, Burnetta Mervine, and Violette McCall; brothers, John, Clarus, Wilber, and Jacob Hoover. Doris was the youngest of nine children.

Doris is survived by daughter-in-law, Beverly Kay Gillin, whom she adored as her own daughter; three grandchildren, Jason Carlyle Gillin, married to Jennifer (Little), Mineral Point; Stacy Lynn Gillin, engaged to William Polacek, Pittsburgh; Dr. Ashley Marie Mastrine, married to Dr. Nick Regis Mastrine, Ebensburg; four great-grandchildren, Matthew James Gillin, Ethan Carlyle Gillin, Sofia Joeline Mastrine, and Dominic Nero Mastrine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris faced many adversities; losing her husband to cancer and working to raise their young son alone, battling and surviving Lymphoma and Breast Cancer, losing part of her home in the 1977 flood, and the most difficult for her was losing her only son to brain cancer in 2013. Despite these difficulties, Doris remained steadfast in her faith and enjoyed the rich blessings of each day. In her younger years she was known to be an excellent cook, creating delicacies without recipes. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Doris had a best friend, Aggie, at the Personal Care Home where they resided. They often enjoyed shopping and dining out, proof that friendship has no age limit. Doris attended the South Fork School and was employed by the Cambria County Treasurer’s Office for over 20 years. Doris was a devout member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and their Altar Rosary Society, Summerhill. She enjoyed fine arts, theatrics and music. Doris was best known for her impeccable taste. She carried herself with class and dignity. She appreciated the finer things in life, having worked hard for them. She was kind and compassionate. Doris will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. followed by vigil for the deceased at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
