Arthur V. Mackel Sr.

November 28, 1937 — December 11, 2021

MACKEL – Arthur V. Sr., 84, Windber, formerly of South Fork, died December 11, 2021, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born November 28, 1937, in South Fork, son of Burley D. and Annetta T. (Thomas) Mackel.

Preceded in death by parents; sister, Verdene Hancock; and brothers, Devon and Howard Mackel. He will now be reunited with his only son Arthur Jr. who passed away February 10, 2010. His heart will now be whole again.

Art married the love of his life, Anna M. (Budash) on February 16, 1993; who he was dedicated to for over 28 years. He was a wonderful father who helped raise three daughters, Bunni Daniels, Virginia Beach, Virginia; Dina, wife of Bryan Scott, Chesapeake, Virginia; and Jennifer Blair, Windber. His greatest joy came to his life when he became a grandfather to Kayla Breen engaged to Justin Martz, Pittsburgh; Megan Ellenberger and husband Ryan, Tacoma, Washington; Matthew and Mitchell Post, Chesapeake, Virginia; Jacob, Evan and Caleb Mackel, Windber; Kassi Blair, North Carolina; and bonus granddaughters, Mackenzie and Ashlyn Scott, Chesapeake, Virginia. Art was promoted to great grandfather to Jaxson Martz, Maverick, Rhyett, and Maddox Ellenberger who completed his life. He will be missed by his brother, Edward “Pope'' Mackel; and sisters, Lorene Gillepsie and Shelby Manges; and many nieces and nephews.

Art was known for his love of beagles which for over 60 years was his favorite pastime. You could find him many nights running his dogs at the Cambria County Beagle Club, where he was a member for decades. Art was a staple at WalMart and Kick’s gas station where you could find him drinking coffee and enjoying his lifelong friends. At the end of his battle with cancer, Art was under the care of Aseracare Hospice. A heartfelt thank you to Allison, Heather, and Stephanie who loved him and made his last days comfortable. You truly are an angel here on earth and the family will always remember you for the compassion and care you provided.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon Wednesday December 15, 2021, at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, the Reverend Rodney Hatfield presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his wife Anna or Aseracare Hospice in memory of Art.

A human life is a collection of stories. As long as we remember a person, they're not really gone. Their thoughts, their feelings, their memories, they become a part of us.
