Arthur H. Byers

BYERS – Arthur H., 87, Sidman; loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord June 19, 2019, at home, surrounded by loving family. Born January 13, 1932, in Daisytown (Johnstown), the last surviving child of John and Elizabeth (Artez) Byers.

Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife of 65 years, Nonie J. (Smay) Byers, who died February 5, 2019; grandson-in-law, Michael Stolz; infant sister, Carolyne Byers; sisters, Mary Decker, Joanne Peterman, Matilda Miller, Regina Pisanelli, Catherine Tomchick, and twin sister, Helene Goller; and brother, John Byers.

Survived by daughter, Doreen Torres and Paul Bonfanti; son, Galen, engaged to Sandi McAfee; daughter, Jennifer Byers and PJ Loya; and daughter, Tina, wife of Brian Burke; grandchildren, Paul Thompson, married to Michelle (Freidhoff); Christa Stolz; Nicole (Torres), wife of Tony Brunetto; Katie Rose Torres; and Brandon Witt, engaged to Angie Wagner; great-grandchildren, Alexis Thompson; Kaila and Damian Stolz; Bentley and Bailey Brunetto; and Hope and Joy Witt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arthur was a graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School and a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation and retired from the Centre Concrete Company.

Arthur “Skids” enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and friends. He was a kind and loving father who dedicated his life to his family, cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and spoiled his grand-dogs, Bambi, Lilly and Cooper. He loved to garden and can; and was an excellent carpenter who built his own home. He looked forward to summers spent relaxing on the porch swing with Nonie watching and feeding the birds. As a devoted husband he spent the past several years tenderly caring for his wife. We were blessed to bear witness to such love and devotion and hope that we may share the values he instilled within us. He is our hero and will be greatly missed.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where vigil will be held at 3 p.m. Friday.

Viewing will also be held at the funeral home from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Father Brian Warchola Celebrant.
