PERACCHINO - James E. “Pooch,” 79, St. Michael, died Oct. 27, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Nov. 28, 1930, in St. Michael, son of Domenick and Lena (Spinos) Peracchino. Preceded in death by parents; infant grandson, Tony Peracchino; sisters, Mary Franchic, Sue Somonick, Ann Smith, Lucille Susko and Matilda Slonac; and brothers, Bert Peracchino and Don Belfiglio. Survived by loving wife of 55 years, Amelia “Miltch” (Kerch) Peracchino, whom he married Sept. 17, 1955; sons, James D. “Jimbo,” married to Lisa Albertelli, Sidman; Craig, married to Brenda Price, St. Michael; and Brian S., Salix, and friend, Gary; granddaughters, Jackie, Bethany and Shannon; grandson, Brock; great-granddaughter, Isabella; sister, Shirley Walls, Sidman; sister-in-law, Margaret Belfiglio; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also was a special stepgrandfather to Ricky, Nikki, Zoey, Emily and Keith. “Pooch” was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1950 to 1954 aboard the USS Philippine as a flight director. For 31 years, he worked for various coal mining companies. He was last employed by Long Wall Mining Co., Mine 42, Windber. He also worked for Baltimore Life Insurance Co. for three years. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sidman. Life member of UMWA Local District 6186. Also a member of St. Michael American Legion Post 551, South Fork VFW Post 7524, Cambria County Fire Police Association and an extremely active member of Adams Township Fire Company Station 84. He also was very active with Adams Croyle Recreation Authority and participated with Miners Museum at the 1889 Park. “Pooch” was an avid Forest Hills Ranger Football fan. During games, he helped with the field crew and operated the scoreboard for 50 years. He will be very sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon Saturday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, by Pastor Custead.
